So last weeks bets delivered a couple of winners, Pompey were successful against poor travellers Nottingham Forest and we saw the 3 goals required in a bizzare match at Bloomfield Road. This week is FA Cup week so many teams outside of the top 2 divisions of English football will be travelling up and down the country to face all manner of opposition. Cup games invariably throw up a few shocks but this week I’m going to focus on the core markets of The Premier League, Championship and also make a foray into a European market in search of some value.

Lazio v Roma: Sunday 7th November 19:45. Also Live on ESPN & Online.

Firstly, yes, this is a derby and with all derbies comes an element of unpredictability but I feel there is enough evidence here to suggest the hosts are a little over-priced @ 2.5.

Lazio currently sit top of Serie A with 6 consecutive wins in the league, an impressive run for any side. They are flying high and with victories over Bari and Palermo away in recent weeks they have shown they have what it takes to grind out results both home and away against tough opposition. On Sunday they host local rivals Roma who’s form has been patchy to say the least. Sitting 9th in the table with 12 points is not a good start to this years campaign and they would expect to be doing better considering their squad. Similar to the Nottingham Forest reasoning last week the setting of this match plays a big part in the reasoning behind backing Lazio, Roma have only gained 1 point of their 12 this season on the road, away 0-0 draw against Parma who are languishing at the bottom of the league. They simply have not travelled at all well this years and with a trip to Lazio in store I dont see that as likely to change this weekend. They also had a midweek Champions League game on Wednesday v Basle so they will have limited time to recover and prepare when compared to their Rome rivals.

Derby v Portsmouth: Saturday 6th Novemeber 17:15. Also Live on Sky Sports 2.

My second pick this week comes from the late kick off in The Championship on Saturday evening. In form Derby host the impressive Portsmouth at Pride Park with both sides looking to extend their recent run of good results. With the Championship being so unpredictable as a league I wouldnt like to pick a winner here in the 1X2 market but looking at the stats they suggest there could be a few goals in this one as both sides have been finding the net with some regularity over the last few weeks.

Looking at Derby’s last 6 games, 4 have gone over 2.5 and with Portsmouth this figure is 5 out of their last 6. Needless to say confidence is high in both camps and I think this one could be a very entertaining and free flowing game with plenty of chances for both sides to find the net. The 1.9 on offer with Paddy Power for over 2.5 seems like a soild bet with over 3.5 @ 3.2 being an option for smaller stakes.

Bet on football games Liverpool v Chelsea: Sunday 7th November 16:00. Also live on Sky Sports.

My final selection this week comes from the Sunday game between Liverpool and current league leaders Chelsea. Liverpool have seen a mini revival in form in the last couple of weeks picking up enough points to hoist themselves out of the relegation zone. Despite this I am still not convinced that they have what it takes in terms of quality to maintain a place in the top 4, or maybe even the top 6 this season. Although the home advantage of a sold out Anfield crowd will no doubt motivate the team the fact remains that they will be missing Agger, Kuyt and Cole for this game and I don’t believe this squad has enough depth to absord those kinds of injuries and still consistently perform at the highest level.

Chelsea on the other hand left it late to see off Blackburn in their last Premier League outing but that kind of result is exactly what wins Championships in the long run. They rested John Terry in the midweek Champions League victory and with Didier Drogba looking like is fully fit again and the potential return of Frank Lampard this should give a massive boost to the side. The clinical nature of Chelsea’s play this year has been impressive and I worry that Liverpools defence will not be able to produce a display that will see them taking anything from the game. Liverpool also have a day less to recover from their European outing than their opponents. All in all I think Chelsea are a good price 2.1 with Betfred for Sundays game and I will be betting this with medium stakes.

Chelsea win @ 2.1 with Betbubbles Stake 6/10.

Happy Punting and Good luck!
